Up early on a Saturday... I woke up around 6:30, an hour later than I ususally do on weekdays, so I had a nice sleep in! I needed a break from my brain that kept insisting that I think about the previous week's work project. So consuming. I don't know about other Type A personalities... but the one thing that tends to consume me is my Work. I don't actually separate my mundane work from my magickal, or spiritual work. At times it's bothered me, but over the last years, I've come to realise that it all is how I relate and it's what I truly love. I enjoy what I do daily. I admit it stresses me out and maybe I spend too much time on it. I say that when I realize that I haven't devoted enough time to the Spirit Side...
So here I am. I just updated the website with the dates for Summerstar 2012. It's going to be our 20th Summerstar. That number is awe inspiring! I'm not quite sure what to make of it, really. I just read through some wonderful archived letters and reviews from past years... I feel so pround and happy about the accomplishments so many people have made these past 19 Summerstars. I just posted to the Village Crier a request for folks to share their memories, when they first attended Summerstar. I'd really love to hear and read them. I'm hoping folks will share.

I just skimmed over what I wrote last Spring... Well, this is for those folks who find their way to these pages... It's late again, another sleepless night, thinking about some Summerstar tasks I have yet to complete and also work. So, figured I would just get up, complete some of those unfinshed tasks and just wait for sleep to come. This year, since January, has just flown by. I wonder if that's the case for other folks? Seems like we were just sitting around, trying to come up with an idea for ritual. I knew I wanted to collobarate on something for 2011. As that came together, we had months ahead of us! And now, only 20 days to go until we see each other again, at our magickal village! I can just imagine the cool surrounding woods, the expanse of the "front lawn", our ritual area and where we all camp. I feel really blessed and at peace when I think of our village and what each person brings to Summerstar. I've had 18 full opportunities to work magick with so many people. It's hard to comprehend at times. I am really grateful for all of it.
Summerstar over the years - yes, it's been 17 years! and we're "legal" this year (2010 marks 18 years)

I'm waxing philosophical tonight.... seems like I don't get to updating this page... the time in between gets longer and longer. I just looked and I see I last updated this page Yule of 2008! Very interesting. Well, I put it all down to time, living, working, forgetfulness... and everthing inbetween!
It's late... I know I have to get up early tomorrow for the pay day job... but here I sit. I've just updated the website page to open our Registration. I'm looking forward to our first meeting in a few weeks with my dear friends who are the backbone of our retreat, festival, gathering... family campout! And I'm really thankful, grateful and absolutely happy that they care.
Summerstar evolved out of an idea Gwydion Stone hatched (my ex-husband of many seasons past, huh, guess that would be almost 20 years!). He'd just moved from Ohio (well, not just... but it was clear he was pretty much a Cincinnati boy at heart)... anyway, he wanted to provide a festival in the vein that he'd put on back east. Out here in the NW, many other fine festivals were in existence (Fall Equinox put on by the good folks down in Oregon), Spring Mysteries and a couple day (full moon celebrations) in the Seattle area. But, he missed the energy and vibe of that Cincinnati/back east feel.... so we talked about putting something like that on... and Summerstar was born. We were born out of a deep connection to ADF (A Druid Fellowship) and had Isaac Bonewits out for our first gathering in June of '93. Much inspired by Isaac's adherence to "why not excellence", we wanted to provide a place for folks to experience Ritual, pathworking and pagan spirit company that was derived out of careful research along neo-pagan lines. Gwydion pretty much spearheaded that part! I spearheaded the logistics of it all (being a master planner and social hostess at heart!).
In looking back over the years... and by the way, do check out the posters on the website, you can see the evolution right there! We're only missing the posters from 2 years... bet you a dollar @ summerstar if you can tell me which ones!... I like to think that the Why NOT excellence has continued... true, many, many lessons have been learned, interesting interactions and even some folks have gone on their own ways, not wanting to turn back (ah the heartache of growth)... But that's what it's about I suppose.
I ask myself, why do I continue to "do this"? And I can only return to, this is my calling, my Work. My sole motivation is to facilitate Change in Conformity with Will... A lofty endeaver... but one that I've naively done at first and then as I've grown, with intention and Will and Love under Will have I continued to do this.
So, with all that... and thinking about the last 20 years and the folks who are an integral part of Summerstar, that family I spend a week in deep spiritual growth with... I still look around me and see my beautiful girlfriends and handsome boyfriends, dear friends new and those who I haven't even met yet.... and I want to say Thankyou. Thankyou for continuing to be there. I also thank sincerely those folks (not many, but they're out there) who have gone on their own ways. While they won't likely be back... their spirit and energy and devotion are ingrained into the Beauty that is Summerstar...
With Love and Devotion and Service... may I continue the Work, Miria...
